Hi if any of you have a great squaw bread recipe, send it my way. I can't seem to find it in any stores near me, the dark, soft, deli-style squaw you can get in, well, deli's. Thanks a lot.

Re: Squaw
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 8:11 PMIts a type of bread with rye and whole wheat flour, it has molasses, brown sugar, and I think raisins in it. Its very dark in color it has a slight sweetness to it, but best of all its super soft for a wheat bread. I already tried one of the recipes I found online, but it was not right (good, but not squaw). I am going to tweak it for next time. Well maybe someone out there can help me out. Thanks -

its heavy on the oil, which should make it softer.. and it has four different types of flour
any good?

Re: Squaw
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 10:03 AMYeah, thats the one I made. It was a great wheat bread, but I am going to sub the honey for molasses, it was too wet so I am going to decrease the water a bit. And I was thinking of adding some cocoa powder, like 1 Tbsp. -

Re: Squaw
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 1:52 AMoh yeah. i didnt notice the honey. I'd definitely substitute for molasses. Better for you, and adds a slight bitterness which makes it less cakelike.
If you use molasses you probably wont need cocoa..
there is a "molasses" bread popular here (switzerland) which is baked in a tin. what shape is that squaw bread you like to buy? -

Sat, September 22, 2007 - 2:03 PMUsually its a round loaf baked on a sheet. I am going to try the molasses in it tomorrow, I still haven't decided about the cocoa.
